Johnson Kitchen

About This Project

I’m always changing my mind when it comes to my stuff, so my kitchen is a culmination of several ideas and styles. I wanted a bright, clean base cabinet with a very open feel to the uppers. I also wanted glass doors with everything exposed and floating shelves. I chose darker frames with a white background in the cabinets to show the contents better.

I wasn’t worried about what the stuff inside looked like and if it it was perfect or nice. I wanted it to just be real and show that you don’t have to have everything in designer containers to look good. I like to cook so this seemed more like a restaurant kitchen where things are easily accessed and visible – plates, glasses, spices, oils and so forth.

I wanted the island to feel more like a repurposed table rather than closed in with doors. The top is finished in the impenetrable Milessi coating which allows me to do all my food prep on the wood top.
